n. [Gr. teras, monster; gyne, woman]
(ARTHROPODA: Insecta)
In Hymenoptera, the aberrant form of female in a Formicidae colony, characterized by overdeveloped legs and antennae, and excess pilosity of the body or defective wings; formerly referred to as beta-females; see alphafemale .
